The organization started functioning in the name of State Purchasing Organization during 1963 and later designated as Directorate Of Export Promotion & Marketing, Orissa. It has been set up to promote export of goods from the State of Orissa and to provide marketing assistance to SSI units of the State. Thus the key functions of the Directorate are,

  To promote export from the State.
  To provide marketing support to the SSI units.
